What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a method of treating patients using the internet and telephone. This can be done via real-time video visits or calls, secure email or remotely monitoring patient vitals. We are currently using the real-time video or call options for our Online Doctor Visits.

Do I have to go to the clinic before I can have an Online Doctor Visit?

No, once your complaint is suited to a telemedicine visit, your first visit with us can be done via our Online Doctor Visits platform.

Do I have to go to the clinic before I can have an Online Doctor Visit?

Even though the doctor does not see you in person, you will be providing them with the history of your medical complaint. This history provides 90% of the information required for a clinical diagnosis even when being seen in person!

If your complaint requires further evaluation via a physical exam or lab tests, our physician will provide the referral you need to ensure you get complete care.

If for any reason your visit is not suited to an online visit and is better managed with in clinic care, you will be informed.

What about those who are underage or elderly?

Parents/guardians can provide medical information on behalf of their children. Caregivers or family members can also do this for the elderly patients. In such cases it will be important to indicate to the doctor who the patient is.

Can I get a prescription after a telemedicine visit?

Yes, you can. We can email/fax a copy to your pharmacy of choice. For those pharmacies that still require a hard copy of the prescription, one can be collected from one of our clinics.

HealthSmart pharmacy currently facilitates prescription delivery, this is done at an additional cost which is separate to the consultation fee.

Importance of strengthening your immune system and having an active lifestyle

The immune system is effective against many disease-causing germs and viruses. Due to the virus that causes Covid-19, being a novel virus, it is not recognized by our immune system and the body’s defence against it is limited. This is why physical distancing, mask wearing and hand sanitising is imperative.

It is important to know that a strong immune system will not prevent you from contracting COVID-19. However, developing a strong immune system while you are healthy can help sustain your body as it familiarizes itself with the virus if you do get sick. Boosting your immune health can also help you fight other common bugs such as cold or flu viruses. Research suggests that nutrition, quality exercise and activity can benefit your immune health.
